ALUMNI
If you are a BHMS alum, you’ve heard this phrase: Once a Mustang, Always a Mustang. But what does that mean? Simply put, it means you always have a home here, and will forever be a part of the BHMS community.

Alumni make up a crucial part of the wider BHMS constituency and play an important role. They are a living realization of the school’s mission, and true representation of our vision. At BHMS, students are taught to be global citizens of the world. We are so proud to see our incredible alumni living that philosophy in action!
“Always a Mustang” can be understood in many different ways. So whether for you, that means attending Homecoming every year, keeping in touch with your teachers, getting together with BHMS classmates and friends, following the school on social media, visiting the building when you’re home in Brooklyn, finding BHMS alums in a new city, looking through your old yearbooks on a trip down memory lane, or simply thinking fondly of your education here when a new challenge comes up and you know exactly how to approach it, we hope you find a way to stay connected that is meaningful and right for you. Our doors on the corner of Court and Bergen are always open!
"The huge difference in me than some of my peers at my new school is my empathy and compassion for others. I think that it helped me not only come out of my comfort zone when I was a new 9th grader, but also allowed me to become really good friends with some of the new 10th graders. BHMS also taught me to value leadership and courage in the face of adversity which enables me to be confident and help others."
-Esmé-Ines Satori Berger, Class of 2022
"I learned a number of skills at BHMS that have contributed to my growth and learning after graduating. On an academic level, I had a number of excellent teachers that helped me learn important skills that I still use today, [including] essay writing classes were crucial in teaching me how to form a structured argument, and I still put [those] tips to use today in law school. On a personal level, the connection I built with my advisor helped me understand how to be a good listener and consider the perspectives of others. All the co-curricular opportunities (drama, the Mustangs) set me up well for involvement in similar activities in High School and beyond, even after moving to a different country!"
-Kai Thomas, Class of 2018
"My “out of the box” thinking is absolutely thanks to the creative pursuit of our education at Montessori. Our curiosity was nourished and encouraged and that taught me to question everything and to never be afraid to swim against the current (in fact it’s important to do so if you wish to be an active and conscious member in the society of this country). BHMS taught me that I was safe choosing to be brave because it will always be worth it to use your courage to inspire attainable hope for our world."
-Clara Sanchez-Vela, Class of 2014
SAVE THE DATE!
Homecoming is on Friday, May 30 from 4:30-6:30pm. Please note this is a change from a usual Saturday event! All alums and alumni families are invited to return to our home at corner of Bergen and Court to reconnect, reminisce, and of course, celebrate being a Mustang. You'll have a chance to visit with your teachers, flip through old yearbooks, and walk through a photo archive for BHMS's 60th Birthday. Be on the lookout for updates here and via email communications!
